Ed started working at the family business, W.A. Benjamin Electric Company, formed by his father in 1911, while in school. Upon graduation from USC he worked for Northrup Aircraft in Hawthorne, which gave him the opportunity to draft the plans, after his assignments were completed, for the home that he ultimately built. About this time, he returned to work for the family business and became the President when his father became ill in the early 1960's. He led the company until his retirement in 1999 and remains on the Board of Directors of the corporation.
